Joining Clarksville

You've seen our lodge, officers, and hopefully learned a bit about freemasonry and now you want to join. First, lets talk about what steps you will go through so you are prepared when you fill out your application.

What are the requirements again?

  • You must be of good repute
  • In Iowa, you must be at least 18 years of age
  • You must believe in a Supreme Being
  • You must live a moral and ethical life
  • You must have a strong desire to make yourself a better man and make your community and the world a better place to live
  • You must be tolerant of other religions, cultures, and points of view

How do you begin?

  1. You can find the petition for membership linked at the bottom of this page.
  2. If you know a man who is currently a Mason, you may ask him to provide you a petition for membership.

What happens after you fil out the petition and submitted it to the lodge?

  1. A committee of members from the Lodge, which is called the Investigating Committee, will contact you to arrange a meeting. They will want to speak to you in order to discuss your character and make sure that you have a legitimate interest in Freemasonry. It will also give you a chance to ask them questions about the fraternity so you can be assured that it is something you would like to invest your time in.
  2. Your request will for membership will be balloted upon by the lodge's members at the next stated meeting after you meet with the Committee.
  3. If you pass, you will be advised of the date of your initiation.

Initiation? What's that?

Masonry consists of three principle degrees which are: Entered Apprentice, FellowCraft, and Master Mason. Each of the degrees requires the candidate to participate in the drama being presented. They are all of a very serious nature and not in the least demeaning of the candidate.

What about when the lodge meets?

We meet the second Wednesday of every month excluding holidays and have a meal that precedes the meeting. Dinner starts at 6:30pm and our Stated Meeting starts at 7:30pm in the Iowa City Masonic Building, 312 E College St., Iowa City. Visitors are welcome to attend dinner but are encouraged to contact us ahead of time to ensure we have an accurate head-count for the meal. Visiting brothers from other lodges are encouraged to attend our lodge. We will welcome our brethren with the most warm regards.
Men wishing to join our lodge should download an APPLICATION HERE and mail it to or come by on one of our meeting nights and join us for some fellowship during the meal prior and hand it in then:
